Construction of a new playing surface in Hotze Field within Granger Stadium is now complete.  Immediately after the 2011-2012 school year ended, construction crews demolished the track from the stadium before removing the Field Turf.  The first Varsity football game was played on Friday night, with the Eagles defeating Santa Fe, 40-17.

"We are committing to having the best athletic facilities available," Athletic Director, Mike Netzel, said. "Our track surface will be state of the art, as will the new field."

Granger Stadium is the only facility in TAPPS District 3-5A that features Field Turf, a synthetic turf that retains the look and feel of natural grass, but is far more forgiving than earlier models of artificial turf.

The track will be named in honor of legendary former coach and counselor Jim Schwarzbach.  A graduate of the Class of 1955, Schwarzbach worked with St. Thomas students as an assistant football coach, head track and field coach and freshman counselor for over 30 years before retiring in 2004.  A dedication of the track will take place before the Eagles' game against Huffman on September 21.
