The St. Thomas Eagles finished 2nd in the Houston Chronicle's Chronicle Cup, which ranks the top athletic programs in the area. The Woodlands was
the only school which scored ahead of the Eagles in the Boys' Overall category.
"The strength of our program is evident by our state championships in recent years, as well as our athletes that are moving on to play at the collegiate level," Athletic Director Mike Netzel, said. "We're looking forward to continuing this positive trend in STH sports this year."
Schools were awarded points for both team and individual sports played throughout the year. Qualifying for the postseason and performance earned higher marks, and the Eagles had a great deal of playoff success in 2011-2012. The football team reached the TAPPS Semifinals for the first time since 2005, while the basketball team reached the semifinals a year after earning a state championship. The baseball team played for the state championship and the soccer team also qualified for the playoffs with a 2nd place finish in district play. The wrestling team earned its 2nd consecutive state championship, while the golf team broke through for a TAPPS title as well. The Rugby team also earned a state championship during a season where the squad was never challenged. The track and cross country programs continue to show marked improvement and will be in the mix for state championships in 2012-2013.
