Six Eagle musicians performed in the Texas Private Schools Music Educators Association All-State concert, selected after a rigorous audition process in the fall, and were joined by roughly 400 of the finest private school music students from all across the state of Texas.
The students were led by world-class clinicians in intensive rehearsals, culminating in a magnificent concert at the Eisemann Center in Richardson, Texas.
Marco Orellana ’17 was one of only two drummers in the All-State Jazz Band, which was conducted this year by the renowned Jazz educator Reginald Thomas from Northern Illinois University and the pianist of the Legendary Count Basie Orchestra. Orellana was recognized for the second consecutive year as an All-State musician, after named to the All-State Concert Band in 2016.
Baritone player Adam Lawrence ’17 and Bass Clarinetist Erich Hennings ’17 were both selected as members of the All-State Band, under the direction of Jack DeLaney, the Director of Bands at Southern Methodist University.
Lawrence is an All-State musician for the third consecutive year, including All-State Band as a sophomore and a junior.
St. Thomas sent three tenors to the All-State Choir, directed by Betsy Weber, the Director of Choral Studies at the University of Houston and the director of the Houston Symphony Chorus.
Ryan Deitz ’17, Daniel Tran ’19 and Dante Segura ’19, were all honored for the first time.
