Catcher Philip Matulia ‘18 collected three hits and drove in two runs as Eagle Baseball rallied to score twice in its final at bat to defeat St. Pius X 7-6 at Fr. Wilson Field.
John Griffin ‘18, Logan Bear ‘17, Dennis Perkins ‘17, Max Winter ‘17 and Nick Rodriguez ‘17 each added RBI as the Eagles split the first two games of the series, raising their district record to 5-3 and 23-5 for the season.
The Eagles struck for single runs in the second and third innings and then doubled their advantage to 4-0 with a pair of runs in the fourth.
The Eagles took a 5-3 lead into the ninth where they surrendered three runs before staging their late game heroics.
Starter Owen Meaney ‘18 (LSU) allowed only four hits and two unearned runs pitching into the fifth inning while striking out nine (106-61).
Eagle Baseball next faces Waltrip April 13, then resumes the district face hosting Beaumont Kelly Catholic April 18 and traveling to St. John XXIII April 20.
