Shane Williams ‘19 raced to two individual sprint titles and anchored two critical relay results to lead St. Thomas to a commanding championship at the 2019 TAPPS Division I East Region Swim Meet.
The Eagles leveraged quality depth in a convincing series of performances at the University of Houston to produce their fourth regional title in six years. The 144 points emphatically outpaced St. John XXIII (98), Awty International (84), The Village School (83), Tomball Concordia Lutheran (29), Beaumont Kelly Catholic (20) and St. Pius X (16).
Williams (49.27) paired with Sebastian Ortiz ‘20 (50.77) to rack a 1-2 finish in the 100 yard Freestyle and then parlayed another 1-2 in the 50 Freestyle with Gabriel Lenz ‘19.
Williams, Lenz and Ortiz combined with Dylan Michaels ‘21 to blister the 400 Freestyle Relay in 1:42.28.
Michaels (1:52.67) and Ortiz (1:53.48) took 3-4 in the 200 Freestyle, and teamed with Josh McLean ‘22 and Hunter Nguyen ‘19 in capturing the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:33.50).
Michaels streaked to second in the 500 Freestyle (5:09.76) followed by Ethan Armenta ‘20 in third (5:30.90), Isaac Wolf ‘20 fifth (5:48.53) and Aiden Brelinsky ‘20 sixth (5:59.23).
Williams, Nguyen, Lenz and Patrick Pham ‘21 piled valuable second-place points in the 200 Medley Relay (1:42.28) while Lenz (57.23) and Pham (59.67) added third and sixth-place finishes in the 100 Butterfly.
