WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

George Fisher ‘18 and Everett Vaughn ‘18 led a second-half surge that saw the Eagles score the first 20 points of the third period to erase a five-point halftime deficit and propel St. Thomas to a critical road win in the generational series that bumps the district mark to 4-1 and season record to 15-6.

TURNING POINT

Fisher and Vaughn combined for 11 quick points during a 13-0 burst out of the break to push the Eagles in front 38-30.  After strong dribble drives and scores from Jaylin Davis ‘19 and Jared Cebrun ‘18, Vaughn hammered the offensive glass for a bucket on the third shot of the possession to increase the count to 45-30.  

Drake Everist ‘18 then capped a 23-2 third period with the third of his four three-pointers for a 16-point cushion heading to the final quarter.

CROSSOVERS

Vaughn’s career-best game included eight of his 20 points in the fourth quarter as the Eagles led by as many as 17 points.  

Everist finished with 14 timely points.  Davis added 12, including nine in the second half, while Fisher ended with 11.

The Eagles trailed by six late in the first period when Max Vosloh ‘18 drilled a three-pointer to slice the margin to 18-15, and then his second three-pointer of the night came early in the fourth quarter to give the Eagles their largest margin of the game at 56-39.

Vaughn, Cebrun and Melvin Larkins ‘118 owned the defensive backboard to limit SPX to repeated one-shot only possessions.

Vaughn and Fisher combined to shoot 6-6 from the foul line in the final 2:36 to assure the victory.

The second consecutive pivotal road win was the same blueprint that saw the Eagles rally at Tomball Concordia Lutheran.  Cebrun erupted for 11 straight points to ignite a 15-0 run during a second half blitz that saw the Eagles wipe out a nine-point halftime deficit, build an 18-point fourth quarter lead and hold on for a 75-70 victory.
