High School Summer Programs
St. Thomas High School Original Credit classes are courses designed for STH students who want to earn credits toward graduation by taking a class for the first time. These courses are ideal for students who wish to:
- Get ahead in their coursework
- Fulfill graduation requirements
- Explore subjects of interest
Original Credit classes can only be taken during the summer through in-person or blended learning formats, depending on the course. These courses follow the St. Thomas High School curriculum standards and include Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Business Applications (formerly Computer Applications), Business Communications (formerly Speech), and Physical Education with Health.
Who: Entering STH 9th-12th graders only
Class Dates: Tuesday, June 10 – Tuesday, July 1 (no class on Thursday, June 19)
Class Times: 12:00PM – 4:00PM
Days of the Week: Monday – Friday
Cost: $850
Focuses on the principles and techniques of written, oral, and digital communication. Business Communications addresses critical business communications skills from preparation and organization to composition and iteration and finally to presentation. This course will provide students with the confidence to create a variety of business communications including emails, memos, letters, speeches, and presentations in high school, college, and the workplace.
All students must be present on the first day of class.
Attendance to all classes is required. Any student missing more than two (2) days of class in the instructional period will receive a failing grade in the course and will be withdrawn without refund. Tardy three (3) times to class will equal one day’s absence. Class begins promptly at designated times.
This course will be reflected in the student’s GPA and will be a 1/2 communications and technology credit counted towards graduation requirements.
OC Business Applications (formerly Computer Applications)
Who: Entering STH 9th-12th graders only
Session 1 Dates: Tuesday, June 10 – Tuesday, July 1 (no class on Thursday, June 19)

Session 2 Dates: Monday, July 7 – Friday, July 25

Students implement personal and interpersonal skills to strengthen individual performance in the workplace and in society and make a successful transition to the workforce and postsecondary education. Students apply technical skills to address business applications of emerging technologies, create a variety of Microsoft Word documents, develop Microsoft Excel spreadsheets using multiple formulas and tables, and make an electronic presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint.
All students must be present on the first day of class.
Attendance to all classes is required. Any student missing more than two (2) days of class in the instructional period will receive a failing grade in the course and will be withdrawn without refund. Tardy three (3) times to class will equal one day’s absence. Class begins promptly at designated times.
This course will be reflected in the student’s GPA and will be a 1/2 technology credit counted towards graduation requirements.
All STH students are required to take this course during the academic year or summer (or pass a proficiency test) before any other technology courses may be taken.
OC Geometry (both sessions required)
Who: Rising STH 10th graders only (with math teacher’s recommendation)
Session 1 Dates: Tuesday, June 10 – Tuesday, July 1 (no class on Thursday, June 19)
Session 2 Dates: Monday, July 7 – Friday, July 25
Class Times: 7:30AM – 11:30AM
Days of the Week: Monday – Friday
Cost: $1700
Original Credit Geometry is open to rising STH 10th graders only. Students who take this original credit course must have met the course pre-requisites of a 93 or higher in Algebra I or an 87 or higher in Advanced Algebra I. Students must receive their math teacher’s recommendation before registering for the course.
This Geometry course covers the required concepts of Euclidean Geometry including definitions, postulates and theorems – See the course catalog on the STH website for a full course description.
Students will earn a full year academic credit upon successful completion of BOTH summer sessions. All students must be present on the first day of Session 1 and take the final exam on campus on the last day of both sessions. In-person daily attendance is strongly encouraged; however, this class is asynchronous and may be completed from another location (with the exception of the first day of Session 1 and last day of each session). The course will be online and supported by a St. Thomas math teacher. A course syllabus will be provided and the coursework must be completed under the supervision and instruction of the St. Thomas math teacher. The class can be completed at the student’s pace; however, the teacher’s office hours are only during the designated class times. Students falling behind by more than 10% will be required to come to class in person to complete any outstanding assignments. Any student who fails to complete the classwork or successfully complete the final exams will not receive a refund or credit for the class.
This course will not be included in the student’s G.P.A. but the full year credit for Geometry will count towards graduation requirements. Upon completion of the course and based on performance, the student will be placed into either Algebra II/Trigonometry or Advanced Algebra II/Trigonometry.

OC Precalculus (both sessions required)
Who: Rising STH 11th and 12th graders only (with math teacher’s recommendation)

Class Times: 7:30AM – 11:30AM

Original Credit Pre-Calculus is open to rising STH 11th and 12th graders only. Students who take this original credit course must have met the course pre-requisites of a 93 or higher in Algebra II/Trigonometry or an 83 or higher in Advanced Algebra 2. Students must receive their math teacher’s recommendation before registering for the course.
This Pre-Calculus course covers the concepts necessary for higher mathematics, as well as all of Trigonometry – See the course catalog on the STH website for a full course description.

OC Physical Education with Health

This course is designed for all incoming freshmen and any transfer student who has not met the required Health credit. The curriculum is composed of two points of emphasis. It will incorporate Health modules centering on the development of the total social, physical, and mental health of the student as well as emergency first-aid and CPR. The second component focuses on a broad spectrum of activities in order for students to find a degree of success which will, in turn, motivate them towards a lifetime of physical well-being.
All students must be present on the first day of class.
Attendance to all classes is required. Any student missing more than two (2) days of class in the instructional period will receive a failing grade in the course and will be withdrawn without refund. St. Thomas High School Credit Recovery courses are offered for Houston area Catholic High School students (co-ed) who have failed a high school course during the previous academic year and need to retake it to earn academic credit. These courses may also be taken by STH students who received a D during the regular semester and seek to improve their grade. These classes provide an opportunity for students to stay on track for graduation by demonstrating mastery of the required material in a structured and supportive environment. Credit recovery programs help students regain confidence, improve their academic standing, and progress toward graduation.

This course may also be taken by STH students who received less than a C- in a Math course during the regular semester and seek to improve their grade.
St. Thomas High School does not replace grades for courses that are failed during the school year. The summer Credit Recovery grade is added to the transcript and included in the cumulative GPA. The original grade remains in the GPA as well.
All students must be present on the first day of class and take the final exam on the day assigned.
